IMF forecasts growth for Honduras

The head boss of the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Honduras, Esteban Vesperoni: "Macroeconomic conditions remain solid and growth is expected to be stable in the coming years."

The Honduran economy has favorable conditions in the short term, and macroeconomic stability is maintained. Vesperoni called macroeconomic policies "very prudent", allowing private activity to develop.

The goals for 2018, despite a series of external factors, are expected to be reached normally. It is expected to reach 3.5% growth in economic activity this year, inflation will close within 4%, with weights of 1% above or below, which was like a target range. The current account deficit of the balance of payments is estimated at 3.2% of GDP. The deficit of the public sector is not more important than the maximum foreseen in the law, 1.2%.

The law of fiscal responsibility is based on a manageable deficit, lower indebtedness and, in this way, the management of income is efficient. In addition, they are implementing measures, with the fulfillment of goals, for the financial situation of the ENEE.

Vesperoni concluded with the commitment to maintain the macroeconomic stability of Honduras.
